Rose Marie Florin (nee McGahn)

Age 90 of Eagan and Formerly of St. Paul - Loving Mother and Grandmother

Rose was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 30, 1926 to Emily H. (nee Goossens) and Edwin T. McGahn. She attended St. Joseph High School and met the love of her life, Melvin James Florin, at a roller-skating event at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The two were married at St. John’s Catholic Church on June 28, 1947. There was nothing that meant more to Rose than her family, husband, and children. She was a kindhearted mother and grandmother and the glue that held the family together. She was a phenomenal comfort cook and she always made sure her immediate and extended family were a part of the gatherings, events, and “suppers”. Her kids remember the love and attention she put into cooking from scratch and how she would let them help her after Sunday Mass. Even her volunteering was focused on her family as she was a Thursday lunch lady volunteer at Sacred Heart School. During the winter, she and Melvin traveled down to Tucson, Arizona to stay and then during the summer, they went up to their Wisconsin lake home on Upper White Ash Lake (near Balsam Lake). More than anything, Rose’s devotion was her family and spending time with them all……

Rose passed away peacefully at United Hospital with her family by her side on the morning of September 5, 2016. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Melvin James Florin; two sons, Thomas Melvin Florin and Robert Thomas Florin; her brother, Edward James McGahn; her sister-in-law, Elouise Lang; and her brother-in-law, Lawrence “Larry” Lang. She will be dearly missed by her children, Patrick Florin of Maplewood, Sharon (John) Ball of Andover, Michael Florin of St. Paul, John (Angela) Florin of Oakdale, Mary Ann (Reed) Jacobson of Farmington, James (Michele) Florin of Apple Valley, Joseph Florin of Rosemount; her grandchildren, Thomas John Ball, Michelle Christine (Gregory) Kuduk, Nicholas Robert (Jamie) Florin, Katherine Marie Florin, Emily Jean (Joseph) Kramer, Matthew David (Tamara) Bearth, Brian Andrew Bearth, Lindsay Jennifer Florin, Clarissa Louise Florin, Alea Egging (Michael) Mettler, Emilyne Rose Florin, Evan Egging Florin, Tyler Joseph Florin, William James Florin, Grace Mary Florin, and Joseph Robert Florin; her great-grandchildren, Mikaela Sharon Ball, Anthony Thomas Ball, Justin Gregory Kuduk, Austin Michael Florin, Ryan Thomas Kuduk, Dylan John Ball, Adriana Deanne Florin, Cody James Bearth, Allie Rose Florin, Dylan Daniel Bearth, Berkley Dee Kramer, Henry Thomas Mettler, Jaxson James Bearth, Josephine Rose Mettler, and Rilyn Eva Kramer; her sister-in-law, Karen McGahn; and many other family and friends.

There will be a gathering for friends and family from 3:00-7:00 PM on SUNDAY, September 11, 2016 at Mueller Memorial, 835 Johnson Parkway, St. Paul with a Rosary at 6:00 PM. There will be a second visitation one hour prior to the 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on TUESDAY, September 13, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 840 6th Street E., St. Paul. Interment and prayers to follow the luncheon at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
