Dr. L. Thomas Austin, of Mahtomedi, MN, age 87, a retired St. Paul oral surgeon, passed away on May 9, 2017 in the presence of family. Preceded in death by his parents, Dr. L.T. Austin and Daisy Austin of Rochester, MN, brother Dr. John C. Austin, and sister Jane Tweedy.
Survived by his wife of 65 years Mary; children Sally Ronat (Jon), Susan Austin DeGregorio (Robert), Tom Austin, Scott Austin (Tricia) and Albert Austin (Tanya); 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Tom practiced oral surgery for over 40 years at the Austin Clinic on Sherman Ave. in St. Paul and in Stillwater. A graduate of the University of MN and its’ Dental School, he received a fellowship to study at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester where he was born and raised. Tom was a star athlete in high school and his love for sports continued throughout his lifetime. He was devoted to his wife and children. He was an avid sailor who loved racing on Lac Courte Oreilles near Hayward, WI where the family has a lake home. Tom and Mary also owned the historic Old Chicago Club on the lake for 30 years, using it for sailboat regattas, weddings, and mini-reunions for friends of his Rochester 1947 high school class. His many other interests included tennis, downhill skiing, sports cars, the stock market, the music of Brazil called Bossa Nova and yellow labradors.

Memorial service on Monday May 15, 2017 at 11:am at HOUSE OF HOPE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 797 Summit Ave. with a luncheon and time of fellowship to follow at the church. Memorials preferred to the Lac Courte Oreilles Foundation, Inc.(www.lcofi.org)
