We loved to take my grandmother fishing at my parents cabin. The boat would be made ready, minnows acquired, reels and chairs added. Grandma would make her way down to the boat, giddy, chatting away about how the last time she had visited, she had caught 70 fish in her outing (never mind that they were tiny sunnies and perch). She wanted to go catch more. So out we went on a beautiful August day, clouds speckling the sky, anchored off a small island on the lake, gentle waves lapping at the boat. Grandma’s line was in the water not 20 seconds when we heard “Ooooh! Oooh! Oooh!” a sound we all smiled at as she held the rod watching it bend over at the fish on the line. Reminded to reel, she brought the fish up, a small perch, brought the biggest grin the my Grandma’s face. Before we had even gotten the fish off the hook she was directing us to get her line back in the water, there were more fish to catch if she was to break her record.
