John Crawford Newland

John Crawford Newland was born in Parkersburg, WV on September 20, 1961. He passed away at his home in White Bear Lake, MN on October 14, 2017. He is survived by his loving mother, Ann Crawford Newland; his brother Michael Preston Newland and his wife Sarah; his brother William Trent Newland, III and his wife Tracy; and by his seven beloved nephews and nieces, Chase Bradley Newland, Riley Anne Newland, Parker JOHN Newland, Taylor Elizabeth Newland, Ethan Trent Newland, Preston Joseph Newland and Lane Rachel Newland. He was preceeded in death by his Father, Rev. William Trent Newland, Jr. and his niece, Rachel Ann Newland.
He graduated number one in his Chemistry class and received a B.S in Chemistry from the Virginia Military Institute in 1983. After working as a Chemist for Milliken & Co., and Mohawk Carpets, he began what would be a distinguished 28 year career with 3M in St. Paul, MN, rising to the level of Corporate NPI (New Product Introduction) Systems Manager. John was recognized as an inventor on three separate United States Patents! In recent years he conceived and developed a revolutionary concept for bringing new products to market at 3M.
John was passionately involve in showing and breeding Akitas. He loved fishing and recently caught the prized 56” Muskie he’d been hunting for years! He loved golfing and spending time with friends, was a devoted Washington Redskins fan, and a true car enthusiast.
