Condolences

Condolence From: Mary Smits
Condolence: Karl was a big guy with a big laugh. Always fun to be around.

He was a great colleague and was a respectful opposing counsel to work with.
After Emmett died, Karl was never the same. I hope Karl has found peace.

I extend my sincere condolences to the family. Karl will be missed.

Condolence: So stunned and sad to hear that Karl passed. He was a friend with a big heart, quick to laugh, and strong willed. We hold fond memories of cycling, sharing meals, and laughing. My heart goes out to family and all those who loved him.

Condolence: I was to Karl an acquaintance, by association, by profession, and by personal experience, and I not only heard many times but understood the challenges he endured. Many loved him, many wanted the best for him, many reached out and extended hope and advices, to the best of their own abilities. I admire his continued commitment to civic and charitable causes. I understand that desire, too. I’m sure his work is not over, and that many will hear from him again, in memory and example.

Condolence: My condolences to his family and neighbors. I remember great times at Macalester, with Karl's many friends, and his drive to follow his father into law. Whenever I hear Sultans of Swing, I think of Karl, and will keep doing so, as I remember him playing that song over and over when it first came out.

Condolence: Karl was the first kid I met when my family moved off the farm into town. He made point of introducing me to the "big city" neighborhood that summer between 6th and 7th grade and extended a hand of friendship when it felt like no one else cared or knew I existed. I never forget that and I think I always tried to emulate his example in my own affairs. Karl was a great guy that way - open and friendly; he made people feel better and do better just for having met him. I'll miss Karl at our HS reunion this summer. He made a difference in a lot of people lives. God Bless.
