Gunther was my friend and German teacher for 40+ years in the 3M Language Society. He was always generous with his time and expertise. As my proficiency grew, I began co-teaching with Gunther, though as the native speaker, he was always the "final authority".
He willingly shared remembrances of his life before, during and after the 2nd World War in Germany and Denmark. He also enlightened us about the early history of the 3M Language Society. All of the students in our class usually shared two celebratory lunches; one around Christmas and a second near the end of the school year. Most of the time we met at the Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter in Stillwater. Gunther loved to lead us in song during these luncheons and I can assure you that the patrons and staff appreciated this bit of German culture.
Gunther will be missed!
