Obituary for Thomas Edward Irvine Jr.

Thomas Edward Irvine Jr.
THOMAS EDWARD IRVINE Jr.
November 28, 1934 - August 6, 2011

Thomas Edward Irvine Jr. was a man for all seasons and all places on this earth. He and his wife, Sandra Mundy, were married for thirty years. They loved to travel and chose to live in places where the outdoors and making new discoveries brought joy to their lives.

His early years were spent at Pine Tree Lake in the home of his parents Sally Ordway and Thomas Edward Irvine, where Tom and Sandi also later resided for some twenty years of their married life.

Tom’s life was filled with achievements. His love of sailing brought him countless awards; he was a Master Gardener; he led the installation of the first giant computers in the Weismann Institute and NATO; he initiated the introduction of Simmenthal cattle in California; his quarter horses were world champions; he was a world class scuba diver and photographer; and a master fly fisherman. His love of boating in Boca Grande was evident by donating his time and serving four years as treasurer of the Boca Grande Pass Yacht Club.
Tom was truly a gentle man and a gentleman. His many friends knew him to be always kind, always thoughtful, and firm when firmness was needed. His death was preceded by a courageous decision to forego treatment for pancreatic cancer, so as to be able to spend quality time for his remaining days with his family.

He is cherished and survived by his wife, Sandi; his siblings, Hod II., Jock, Jill, and Billy; his daughters, Tracy (Michael), Cynthia (Hod III), Tara; and by his grandchildren, Shane, Julian, Cody, Tyler, Blake and Tristan…and Polo too.

A memorial celebration of Tommy's life will be held later this fall in Boca Grande Florida.

Sail on Boatsie...we all love you.

The Irvine family would like to thank St. Jude’s Hospice for their care.
