Obituary for Shirley Grace McIntyre (Mastenbrook)

Shirley Grace McIntyre (Mastenbrook)
Shirley Grace McIntyre (nee Mastenbrook)

Shirley was born in Warren Township (just outside of Winona, Minnesota) on October 29, 1929. She was one of three children to Lydia (nee Mueller) and Arthur Mastenbrook. She graduated from Winona High School. She met the love of her life, James Carroll McIntyre, on a double blind date. They fell in love and were married in Minneapolis in November of 1950. Shirley stayed home to take care of their four children, Gary, Kathy, Mike, and Cindy. During that time, she was a very hands on mother. She was a Den Master of the Cub Scouts for both Gary and Mike, and she attended all the kids events that were possible. She eventually went on to work as an Administrative Clerk within the delinquent tax department for the State of Minnesota. Outside of her family, her passions included crocheting, sewing, taking care of flowers, baking, and golfing. She and Jim were able to travel quite a bit and loved to road trip across the US in their trailer. For almost 15 years, they wintered in McAllen, Texas. They had a few opportunities to travel out of the country and took a trip to Europe in 1975, and several cruises. Shirley’s personality was truly unique and she had a very sly sense of humor. She was a scrapbooker before it was popular and she used her typewriter to make captions for photographs. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lydia and Arthur Mastenbrook; her husband of 62 years, James McIntyre; her sister, Sylvia Hershelman; and her brother, Harold Mastenbrook. She will be dearly missed by her children, Gary (Deb) McIntyre of Maplewood, Kathy (Kris) Wolfe of Lonsdale, Mike McIntyre of White Bear Lake, and Cindy (Jeff) Kruger of Arden Hills; her grandchildren, Brianna McIntyre, Andrew McIntyre, Sarah (Troy) Moore, Julie (Kevin) Johnson, Colleen Skara, Jessica McIntyre, Cristin McIntyre, Matthew (Anneli) Kruger, and Patrick Kruger; her great-grandchildren, Blake Moore, Aunika Skara, and Max Johnson; and many other family and friends.

There will be a gathering for family and friends from 11AM-1PM on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Mueller Memorial, 4738 Bald Eagle Avenue, White Bear Lake, with a service beginning at 1PM. Interment to follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
