Virginia's Story, as told by Virginia

Sometime in the summer of 2010, Virginia handwrote the following about her life to that point in time:

"I was born in Lafayette and my maiden name was Sellers.  I graduated from the 8th grade at Ford School, now the Armory at the top of South Street hill.  I graduated from Old Jeff and also from Purdue in the School of Science.

I worked for IBM for a couple of years and then married Bill Kemmer.  He was finishing school at Purdue after serving in the Air Corps.  He was an engineer for General Motors and we were moved around some.  Lived in Kansas City, MO, Overland Park, KS, Atlanta, GA, and Bloomfied Hills, MI.  We had three children who are now spaced all around -- Miami, FL, Burke, VA, and St. Paul, MN.  Bill died at the age of 48 while we were in Michigan.

My youngest, Patty, and I moved to Lafayette in 1978 because my mother was elderly and needed help and I thought Lafayette would be a good place for Patty to grow up.  She was 11 at that time.

In 1990, I remarried -- Bob Harrington.  We were married for15 years and he died four years ago.  He had four sons who live in Lafayette and they have been very helpful to me now.

I was born an alto.  Have sung in Jr. Choir, Sr. Choir, Al Stewart's Festival Singers, the Late Bloomers, and now the Ambassadors.  I also play the piano."
